Error FAQs

Why am I getting 'Not a valid path' error when running the update?

This error usually occurs if you have altered the drive during the update Wizard, eg. from c:\earnie to f:\earnie. To correct the problem put a '\'at the end of the path, e.g. f:\earnie\

I am trying to add a new payment/deduction in EARNIE but keep getting an error 9. Why?

This error only occurs if you have previously, at any time in the past, deleted a payment/deduction. To get round this problem, add the new payment/deduction using the Wizard and then contact Support or call us on 0844 815 5677 to ask for a new CD.

Why am I getting the message 'no files found to back-up', or 'restore failed code 11'?

Check your directory for data. If it starts with '\\' change this to a mapped network drive. If you are unsure about this speak to your IT department.

Why am I getting error 507 printing a report?

The report file is missing or corrupt. Re-selecting the report from the library should fix the error.

I keep getting error 545 trying to print. Why?

This error indicates a problem connecting to the printer.

  • Try to print a test page.  If it does not print, then the problem is with the printer set up. If the test page prints ok, try printing again from EARNIE
  • If the 545 error still occurs, go to Start/Settings/Printers, right-click on a different printer and set it as the Default Printer. Then right-click back onto the correct printer and set it as the Default Printer
  • If the 545 error still occurs after trying both these things then try rebooting the PC and the printer to try and restore the connections between them
  • Finally, check the physical connections between PC/Printer/Network

I am getting 'error 13 check version, type mis-match'. What should I do?

This error indicates that an older version of the software has been installed in error. Check which version of the software you are running by going to Help and About (this error will re-appear but click on ok and you will be able to see the version number).

The version number here should match the latest update CD you received.

Error 106 - Component Move Data Failure

This error usually indicates a corrupt CD. Your IT department could try copying all the files from the CD onto your hard-disk and running the installation from here.

Please contact Support or call 0844 815 5671 for advice on how to do this. If this doesn't resolve the error we will arrange for a new CD to be sent to you.

Error 115 - Specified File Cannot Open as Write

This error is usually caused by a permissions problem. You should ask your IT department to check you have full read/write permissions to the install location. They should also ensure that none of the files are read only.

If the error persists after the above checks, try to establish which file causes the error. Then re-name this file in the installation location and run the CD again.

When logging in, I keep getting this message 'Licensed User Limit (Single User) has been reached - contact your dealer to increase
the number of licensed users'. What do I do?

This message can appear if the program was not closed correctly.

To clear the message log into Admin, choose the Operators/Groups menu and Clear Operator Locks.* You should then be able to log back in by going to File/Use Earnie and entering your usual login details.

*If you have changed your password and have forgotten it, please send a fax to 0844 815 5680 asking for a break-in password. This fax should be by an authorised person, and include your licence number, name, contact number and signature.

I have found a utility in my EARNIE directory called REGCLEAN.
What does it do?

If, after a successful installation of EARNIE, you experience error messages telling you that DLL or OCX files are not properly registered you should run the REGCLEAN utility.

REGCLEAN is a Microsoft utility which is installed as part of the EARNIE setup. It resides in the UTILS sub-directory under the main EARNIE program directory. This utility scans the Windows registry and fixes any problems it finds. If you let it correct any errors it will create an 'Undo' file in the UTILS folder. Double-click on this file to reverse the corrections REGCLEAN made.

Why am I getting an error 75 printing BACS in EARNIE 32?

This is a Path File Access error. You need to delete the BACS file from the EARNIE directory and run the BACS report again. The BACS file will be called either BACSOUT.000 or BACS000.TXT where 000 is your company ID.

Error 623 - File Transfer Error

This error usually indicates one of the files in the install location is read only. You should ask your IT department to remove the read only flags on all files in this location.

If you are experiencing any of the above errors and do not have any IT resource, please contact support for advice.

Why am I getting the error 'No Employees were found to be paid'?

There can be several reasons:

  • You are either running the wrong period number
  • You do not have the next tax pay number set correctly
  • You  are selecting by employee name, try their code instead
  • Employee is on hold or has been marked as a leaver
  • Lastly, some de-bug figures may be set incorrectly. Contact Support
    or call 0844 815 5671

When and why do I need to run a Rebuild Data File?

On occasions the data files for a company may become corrupted. This can happen
if the computer is turned off during a payroll run or when there is a power failure.
If the above happens it may be possible to recover the data files without having to restore them from a back up.

Log into Admin. Go to File, Companies & Rebuild. Choose the company and click OK, say yes to compacting the data files.
