Payroll software from EARNIE - the payroll people

BACS FAQs

Why am I not getting a BACS file when I run the BACS report?

Re-select the BACS report from the library. Run the BACS report again and make sure you Print or Preview. Do not export! Make sure you are selecting the right week or month number.

Are you looking for the file in the right directory. Bacsout.xxx is normally saved in the EARNIE program directory?

Is the BACS software looking in the right directory for the bacsout.xxx file?
If you have checked all of the above, try rebooting the machine and then printing / previewing the BACS report again as soon as you log back in.

Where are my BACS files stored?

BACS files are automatically stored in the EARNIE program folder. However you can alter the BACS Output Location.

To store BACS files for a specific company in a named folder, create a text file (i.e. using notepad) containing the filename and path. Save it in the EARNIE directory as BACSLoc.xxx where xxx is the company's ID number.

i.e. c:\program files\earnie\BACSLoc.003

Alternatively, BACS files for all companies can be saved in the same folder. In this case, the text file is saved as BACSLoc.

i.e. c:\program files\earnie\BACS

If both files are present, BACSLoc.xxx will take precedence.

EARNIE changes to BACS naming conventions

Normally the BACS output files created in EARNIE have the naming convention bacsout.000 where 000 is the company id.

The following layouts are named differently in accordance with the bank specifications:

  • Bankline BACS (*.txt)
  • RBS Standard Domestic
  • RBS Bulk Domestic
  • Payaway BACS
  • Hexagon BACS

The naming convention for these reports is bacs000.txt where 000 is the company ID.

Why am I getting an error 75 printing BACS in EARNIE?

This is a Path File Access error. You need to delete the BACS file from the EARNIE directory and run the BACS report again.

The BACS file will be called either BACSOUT.000 or BACS000.TXT where 000 is your company ID.

How do I create a BACS file?

Firstly, choose the BACS report from the library - go to Reports, Library Selection, Bank Reports/Bacs. Then go to Reports, Print Bacs. Choose the correct BACS report and OK.

Select the correct week and month number, then choose Print or Preview. When your report has printed EARNIE will have created a file called Bacsout.000 or Bacs000.txt, depending upon the selected report, where 000 is the company number. The file can be found in the EARNIE program directory e.g. C:\program files\Earnie. You need to point your BACS software to pick it up from here.
